WHILE I WAIT

While I wait for those things I desire to be made manifest, what do I do?

What do I do when the promise lingers… When what God spoke is true, yet not yet visible?

I have found myself asking these questions in quiet moments, when my soul is searching for answers it cannot rush. Abraham was called the father of faith not because the promise came quickly, but because he waited, and waited well. He held on through years of silence, tension, and contradiction.

There is so much to learn from him. Yet we must admit, our world is louder now.

The pressures and cares of this life have redefined everything. Social media flashes what it calls “perfection” in our faces. Concerned friends and family ask questions; they mean well, but stir anxiety. And then there is the anxious heart we try so hard to silence. The noise keeps getting louder. So the question remains: What do you do when the promise lingers?

A Posture for Waiting

Scripture gives us a posture.

“So put on God’s armor now! Then when the evil day comes, you will be able to resist the enemy’s attacks; and after fighting to the end, you will still hold your ground.” Ephesians 6:13 (GNT)

The fact that it has not yet manifested does not mean you loosen your guard.
You still stand, waiting in the same posture of faith, heart, and mind.

Waiting is not inactivity. Waiting is endurance.

While You Wait, Check Your Faith

“Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations.” Romans 4:18 (NIV)

While you wait, check your faith. Do your confessions align with the desires of your heart? Are you praying in faith today, then confessing something different tomorrow because the pressure got hotter or because everyone else is saying it?

Your confessions must align with the truths God revealed to you in quiet moments with Him. Those spontaneous answers. Those words, songs, and nudges you receive while driving or going about your day. What God whispers in intimacy must not be contradicted in public.

Choosing the alternative and going back to what feels familiar is not an option. Stand your ground in faith and press in!

While You Wait, Check Your Heart

“Wait passionately for God, don’t leave the path. He’ll give you your inheritance when the time comes.” Psalm 37:34 (MSG)

Did you set a timer for God and it just went off? 😂
Have we not all been there!!

The fact that it tarries does not mean you abandon your duty post. It does not mean you indulge in activities that weaken your faith. God is not transactional. He wants your heart, honest, present, and still open.

While You Wait, Check Your Worship

“Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God.” Romans 4:20 (NIV)

Even if it tarries, let nothing steal your worship. In worship, we commune with God. His glory rubs off on us. Our perspective shifts. Our strength is renewed.

There is an African spice I love deeply; grains of Selim, and it has taught me much about waiting.
